Building Strength: Vulcan Steel Structures Expands Tractor & Equipment Company

Vulcan Steel Structures played a crucial role in the expansion of Tractor & Equipment Company’s (TEC) Huntsville, Alabama, facility, located at 190 Dan Tibbs Rd. NW, providing the steel structures for a modernized retail, parts, and service center designed to meet growing demand.

As part of the project, Vulcan supplied a new parts department building, a 12,000-square-foot shop and maintenance facility, and an extension of the existing structure to accommodate offices, bathrooms, and break rooms.

The new service center features ten bays equipped with two five-ton top-running bridge cranes to support TEC’s heavy equipment operations. To accommodate these cranes, Vulcan utilized crane brackets extending from the interior flange of the sidewall columns and both sides of the interior columns, providing structural support for the longitudinal-running crane beams within each interior module of the building.

An attached 1,800-square-foot covered area was also constructed for lubricants and DEF storage.

A separate 2,800-square-foot wash rack with a closed-loop wastewater recycling system was constructed to ensure environmental compliance. Meanwhile, Vulcan’s engineers tackled a unique challenge—integrating a faux wall system into both the new and existing structures. To achieve this, Vulcan provided new columns outside the existing building, maintaining the original column spacing.

New wall girts and spandrel beams were installed in a flush condition, allowing the builder to apply FW-120 wall panels without removing the existing walls. The taller faux wall created a parapet condition, with valley gutters inside to manage water drainage.

The exterior features a mix of PBR 26-gauge Siliconized Polyester panels and FW-120 22-gauge Kynar panels, blending durability with a modern aesthetic.

Builder Powers & Associates led the project, working closely with Vulcan and other subcontractors to bring TEC’s vision to life. This project reinforces Vulcan’s position as a leading steel provider for industrial expansion, delivering solutions tailored to complex, large-scale projects.
